Botswana Minister Urges Greater Focus on Locally Made Products at BEMA High-Level Session. Botswana’s Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Tiroeaone Ntsima, has called for increased prioritisation of locally manufactured goods in both public and private markets. Speaking at the Botswana Exporters and Manufacturers Association (BEMA) High-Level Session currently underway, the Minister emphasised the importance of supporting homegrown products as a step towards economic growth and sustainable industrialisation.

“Locally made products should take centre stage,” Ntsima said during his address. His remarks come at a time when the country is actively exploring avenues to diversify its economy and reduce reliance on imports.

The BEMA High-Level Session brings together key stakeholders in manufacturing, trade, and export development. Industry leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs have gathered to deliberate on strategies to strengthen Botswana’s manufacturing sector and promote export competitiveness.Minister Ntsima highlighted the potential of Botswana’s manufacturing sector to drive job creation, skills development, and regional trade. He encouraged businesses and consumers alike to recognise the value of supporting local enterprises.

BEMA Chairperson and several representatives from local firms echoed the Minister’s sentiment, stressing the need for improved visibility and market access for Botswana-made products. Discussions also touched on infrastructure, supply chain challenges, and the need for cohesive policy implementation to foster industrial growth.

For entrepreneurs in Botswana, the Minister’s statement signals a continued push from government to create a favourable environment for local businesses. While the session did not announce specific policy shifts, the emphasis on local procurement and support for manufacturers aligns with Botswana’s broader economic development goals.
