Delta Cooking Oil Launches to Strengthen Local Production and Create Jobs. Baakile Seloka, founder of Tropical Limestone Mining Pty Ltd, has entered Botswana’s food production sector with the launch of Delta Cooking Oil, a new locally produced brand aimed at reducing the country’s reliance on imports.

The cooking oil, now available in 2-liter bottles at select Saverite stores, is part of Seloka’s broader vision to boost self-sufficiency and stimulate job creation, particularly in underserved regions like the Okavango and Ngamiland districts.

Speaking about the challenges facing local entrepreneurs, Seloka emphasized the need for stronger institutional support. “We need better funding for businesses because it’s hard to grow with poor financing,” he said. He also urged government leaders to consider declaring Ngamiland and Okavango as special economic zones to attract investment and enable sustained growth.

A recent study by Nardi Research revealed that Batswana consume approximately 200 million liters of cooking oil every month, with most of it imported. Seloka views this gap in local production as an opportunity. “I want Botswana to make its own cooking oil so we can stop depending on imports in the future,” he said.

Delta Cooking Oil is currently stocked at Saverite outlets in Gaborone, Thamaga, Molepolole, Lethlakeng, Bokaa, and Modipane. Plans are underway to expand availability to Choppies stores across Botswana and into Namibia, according to Seloka.

As Delta Cooking Oil enters the market, it represents more than a new product—it signals a growing movement of local entrepreneurs working to build industrial capacity and create long-term economic impact from within Botswana.
