Debswana Confirms Orapa No. 2 Plant on Planned Maintenance, Not Closed. Debswana Diamond Company has issued a formal statement confirming that the Orapa No. 2 Ore Processing Plant is currently undergoing its annual planned maintenance shutdown and has not ceased operations, contrary to recent media reports.
The company clarified that the shutdown is a standard operational procedure conducted each year during the month of May. This routine maintenance is aimed at ensuring plant efficiency, reinforcing safety protocols, and supporting long-term operational performance.
The announcement also follows the Debswana Board’s March 2025 approval of strategic production adjustments in response to global market conditions. Among these measures was the decision to place tailings treatment facilities at Letlhakane and Jwaneng Mines under long-term asset preservation. However, primary carats production remains uninterrupted at the Orapa No. 2 Ore Processing Plant and the Jwaneng Main Treatment Plant.
Debswana emphasized that the current maintenance at Orapa No. 2 should not be misinterpreted as a closure. The plant remains a central part of the company’s production strategy, with the maintenance work expected to improve both safety and performance outcomes.
The company urged contractors, business partners, and stakeholders to rely on official communication platforms for accurate and timely updates on operational matters.
