Marang JSS Students Explore Diamond Innovation in Eye-Opening DBGSS Tour. De Beers Global Sightholder Sales (DBGSS) recently welcomed 20 top-performing STEM students from Marang Junior Secondary School for a unique educational tour, offering a close-up look at Botswana’s natural diamond industry.

The initiative aimed to deepen students’ understanding of the role of science and technology in the diamond value chain. Guided by industry professionals, the learners explored advanced processes used in diamond aggregation and sorting, gaining practical insights into how natural diamonds contribute to Botswana’s economy and sustainable development.

As part of the tour, students engaged with the Aggregation and Large Stones teams at DBGSS. These sessions exposed them to real-world applications of STEM fields in mining, logistics, and technology—fostering a better grasp of potential career paths in the sector.

Marang JSS, known locally as a “Planet Hero” school for its environmental efforts, shares a strong alignment with De Beers’ sustainability ethos. This made the visit especially relevant, as students also learned how the company incorporates environmental stewardship into its operations.

The visit forms part of De Beers’ broader commitment to creating lasting, positive impacts in communities where it operates—an ethos captured in its #BuildingForever strategy.

For Marang JSS students, the experience was both inspiring and aspirational, bridging classroom knowledge with real-world industry practices. The visit is expected to motivate students to pursue further studies and careers in STEM-related fields, ultimately strengthening local capacity in Botswana’s diamond industry.
