BTO Joins National Dialogue on Transport and Infrastructure in Support of Inclusive Tourism Growth. The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) took part in the National Development Plan 12 (NDP 12) Stakeholder Engagement Workshop on Transport, Logistics, and Infrastructure held today at Fairgrounds in Gaborone.
The workshop, convened by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, brought together public and private sector stakeholders to deliberate on strategies to strengthen Botswana’s transport systems and logistics capacity in alignment with national development priorities.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Hon. Noah Salakae, officially opened the session, calling for bold, inclusive, and forward-thinking planning as the country advances under a new administration. He highlighted the vital role that efficient transport and infrastructure systems play in supporting key sectors, including tourism.
Representing the BTO, Chief Executive Officer Ms. Keitumetse Setlang emphasized the need to align infrastructure development with Botswana’s evolving tourism strategy. She pointed out that as the country works to promote lesser-known destinations such as Kgalagadi and Ghanzi, accessibility must be prioritized to unlock their full tourism potential.
BTO’s participation signals the organization’s ongoing commitment to contributing meaningfully to national development conversations, particularly those that impact the accessibility and sustainability of Botswana’s diverse tourism offerings.
The workshop provided a valuable platform for stakeholder collaboration, encouraging integrated planning and long-term coordination across sectors. As NDP 12 continues to take shape, the BTO reiterated its support for infrastructure initiatives that will drive economic growth and open up new opportunities within the tourism landscape.
