Botswana and Lesotho Forge Regulatory Alliance to Strengthen Gambling Oversight. Gaborone, Botswana – In a significant development for the regional gaming industry, the Gambling Authority of Botswana and the Lesotho Casino Board have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening gambling regulation and cooperation across borders.
The agreement was formalised by Gambling Authority Board Chairman, Mr. Marvin T. Torto, and Lesotho Casino Board Chairman, Mr. Pokello Mahlomola. The MoU outlines a framework for collaboration in areas including licensing procedures, compliance monitoring, anti-money laundering initiatives, and the promotion of responsible gambling.
According to both regulatory bodies, the MoU will also support capacity building through technical support, staff training, and exchange programmes. The goal is to enhance operational efficiency and regulatory expertise in both jurisdictions.
The move comes at a time when many countries in Southern Africa are reassessing their gambling frameworks to keep pace with evolving industry dynamics and emerging risks. By collaborating, the two authorities hope to not only tighten regulatory standards but also foster regional consistency and cooperation.
