Mastercard and Botswana Innovation Fund Launch Fintech Sandbox to Empower Local IInnovators. The Botswana Innovation Fund (BIF), in collaboration with Mastercard, has officially launched the Mastercard Sandbox Program—a new initiative designed to support local fintech innovators in developing and scaling digital finance solutions.
The program invites Botswana-based innovators to apply and gain access to a simulated, secure environment where they can test and validate fintech solutions using synthetic yet realistic data. This controlled setup helps reduce risk while accelerating the development process.
According to BIF, the Mastercard Sandbox Program offers several key advantages: rapid prototyping, reduced time-to-market, and the opportunity to collaborate with global experts in financial technology. Participants will also gain access to Mastercard’s advanced tools and resources, positioning them for potential partnerships and long-term growth.
Applications are open from April 23 to May 2, 2025. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their applications via the Botswana Innovation Fund’s official platform at bif.co.bw.
The Mastercard Sandbox Program is tailored to early-stage innovators and startups looking to experiment, refine, and validate digital finance solutions before launching them to market. Its goal is to foster innovation that is both impactful and scalable, further strengthening Botswana’s position as a rising player in Africa’s digital economy.
