Minister of Minerals and Energy Calls for Fresh Narrative on Botswana’s Diamond Industry. KGK Diamonds Botswana recently welcomed the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Hon. Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, for an official visit to their factory located in Block 3, Gaborone. The visit formed part of the Ministry’s broader engagement with industry stakeholders to explore new ways of promoting Botswana’s diamond sector.
Speaking during her visit, Minister Kenewendo expressed a desire to reframe how Botswana tells its diamond story to the world. She emphasized the importance of showcasing the full journey of jewellery manufacturing — from the careful selection of rough stones to the final polished product — all within the country.
“I would like the world to experience the complete process of diamond manufacturing here in Botswana,” she said, noting that such a narrative could strengthen the country’s position in the global diamond market while promoting local beneficiation.
The Minister indicated that she will be seeking meaningful engagement with stakeholders in the diamond cutting and polishing industry to develop a strategy that highlights Botswana’s capabilities and value addition efforts. This, she believes, will not only enhance the country’s brand but also foster a sense of national pride in its natural resources and industrial expertise.
KGK Diamonds Botswana is one of several companies involved in the downstream diamond industry, contributing to local employment and skills development.
