200 Projects Selected to Drive Botswana’s Economic Transformation AAgenda. The Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP) has taken a major step forward with the selection of 200 projects across multiple sectors, out of more than 6,000 submissions received nationwide.

Announcing the milestone in Gaborone today, President Advocate Duma Boko confirmed that the shortlisted projects cover agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure, financial services, digitalisation, tourism, energy, water, mining, and social sectors. He explained that the rigorous selection process ensured that only the most strategic and impactful initiatives were retained to align with the country’s transformation vision.

President Boko said the response highlighted the readiness of private sector players, innovators, social entrepreneurs, and development partners—both local and international—to collaborate with government in driving inclusive growth. He described the BETP as a platform to accelerate Botswana’s shift toward diversification, competitiveness, and sustainable development.

One of the highlights of the programme is the focus on agriculture, where bankable projects have been identified to reduce the country’s reliance on imports. The projects are expected to advance food security while supporting livelihoods through initiatives that prioritize both import substitution and export readiness.

The President emphasized that the BETP will rely heavily on private sector participation to turn these projects into measurable outcomes, noting that government’s role will be to provide an enabling environment for innovation, investment, and growth.

For Botswana’s entrepreneurs and businesses, the BETP signals opportunities to contribute to national development while tapping into new value chains. The projects cut across industries with strong potential for job creation, skills development, and expansion into regional and global markets.

With implementation now in focus, the BETP stands as a blueprint for transforming Botswana’s economy into one that is competitive, diversified, and people-centered.
